When Was The Last Time You Sinned and Repented?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Assalaamu alaykum

Dear Friends

I pray that you are well.

Whatever we do in this life, the ultimate objective should be to be close to Allah. Whatever your level of Iman (Faith) is, ensure that each day your relationship with Allah is better than the day before.

You can only draw closer to Allah if you feel that there is something about yourself that you need to change. If you feel that everything about you is just fine, then it is not possible to draw closer to your Lord because you are under no pressure to do anything.

The point of repentance is to drive you to Allah Most High.

The opposite of repentance is self-satisfaction. Self-satisfaction is a tool that Shaytan uses to reduce your religious practice-- the general rule is that if you are not drawing close to Allah Most High, you are most likely getting farther away from Him.

True repentance comes from inculcating a sense of duty to your Lord. This is realized by training the heart to serve your Lord, constantly asking at every juncture of your life, "What does Allah want me to do right now?" and doing it even if you are inclined to do something else.

The point, then, is not to remember your sins, but to feel repentant over not giving Allah what He deserves.

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wassallam turn towards Allah for repentance 100 times a day. We have the more reason to do this because we fall into sins by day and by night. Further, nobody ever does what Allah deserves from him.

The door of repentance is always open. So, don’t delay your repentance in a hope for tomorrow, as you may not see tomorrow. So, repent now and make lots of istighfar (asking Allah for forgiveness) throughout the day of your life. When Allah accepts your repentance and forgives you, it means that on the Day of Judgment when everyone will be worried about their destiny, you will be standing there under the shade of the Throne of Allah, given VIP access into Jannah (Paradise) because Allah Al-Kareem released you from the fire of Jahannam (Hellfire).

One of the beautiful Names of Allah is Al-Ghaffaar (الْغَفَّارُ) – The Great Forgiver The Forgiver, the One who forgives the sins of His slaves time and time again.

May Allah make us of those who are constantly repentant and of those who purify themselves and save us from the torment of the Hellfire. Ameen.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلتَّوَّ‌ٰبِينَ وَيُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَطَهِّرِ‌ينَ ﴿٢٢٢

...Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves." (222)

[Qur'an, Al-Baqarah 2:222]

And Allah knows best and He alone grant success.

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala aalihi wa sahbihi wassallam.

Wassalaam
